791. PbSe nanowires grown by the template method

PbSe nanowires were prepared using the template method. Polycarbonate ion track membranes with pore sizes ranging between 50 nm and 1.5 mu m were used as templates. The deposition of PbSe in the pores of the template was performed electrochemically. The influence of the deposition potential and membrane porosity on the morphology and composition of the prepared nanowires was studied. The composition of the wires has been determined by EDX measurements for different potentials. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the morphology of the deposited nanowires. X ray diffraction has been used for structural measurements.

792. The synthesis and characterization of poly vinyl chloride chemically modified with C-60

The fullerenated poly vinyl chloride was synthesized by the addition reaction of azido-substituted poly vinyl chloride with C-60. Structural characterization carried out using Raman and FTIR spectroscopy confirm the presence Of C-60 chemically bound in the new compound. Also, the photoluminescence properties of fullerenated poly vinyl chloride are considerably changed from those Of C-60.

793. EIS studies of electrodeposition process of manganese and copper doped ZnO wires

Electrodeposition of manganese- and copper-doped ZnO wires into polycarbonate membranes, from an aqueous solution containing 0.05 mol dm(-3) Zn(NO3)(2)+ 0.01 mol dm(-3) Mn(NO3)(2)+ 0.0005 mol dm(-3) Cu(NO3)(2)+ 0.0075 mol dm(-3) lactic acid, pH = 4.7 was investigated using linear sweep voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The equivalent electrical circuits for fitting experimental results were similar to those for characterization of metal/polymer coating systems. impedance data and voltarnmetric curves showed that an increase of local pH due to reduction process of nitrate ions induces the co-precipitations of metal ions in the proximity of electrode as oxides. 794. Characteristics of hydroxyapatite thin films

Thin films of hydroxyapatite (HAp) (Ca-10(PO4)(6)(OH)(2)) were vacuum deposited on different substrates (quartz and silver) in connection with biomedical applications. Characteristics of thin films were putted into evidence by (SEM) and (XPS) analysis. The FT-IR spectroscopy was performed on hydroxyapatite powder and thin films deposited on quartz. The deposition of HAp thin films presents good surface quality as a smooth and an adherent layer. The biological tests confirm the characteristics of these thin films as bioactive materials. The hydroxyapatite thin films supports have a micro cell configuration that allows them to be used for obtaining medical biocompatible supports.

795. Hydroxyapatite-iron oxide bioceramic prepared using nano-size powders

The hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an important material for orthopedics and dentistry applications. In the present study a simple method was tried for added the iron oxide nanoparticles into HAp so as to establish and induce a biocompatibility. In the research the mechanism of the coated of iron oxide with HAp would also be described by the analysis of X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope and Fourier transformation infrared. Osteoblast cells were permanent monitored to detect any possible influence due to samples that might alter the cell growth, viability and proliferation.

796. Transport through a multiply connected interacting mesoscopic system using the Keldysh formalism

We apply the Keldysh formalism in order to derive a current formula easy to use for a system with many sites, one of which is interacting. The main technical challenge is to deal with the lesser Green's function. It turns out that, in the case of the left-right symmetry, the knowledge of the lesser Green's function is not necessary and an exact current formula can be expressed in terms of retarded Green's functions only. The application is done for a triangular interferometer which gives a good account of the Fano-Kondo effect. It is found that the interference effects, in the context of Kondo correlations, give rise to a point in the parameter space where the conductance is temperature independent. We include a comparison with the results from Ng's ansatz [Phys. Rev. Lett. 70, 3635 (1993)], which are less accurate, but can be used also in the absence of the above mentioned symmetry.

797. Influence of geometrical properties on light emission of ZnO nanowires

The present paper deals with the preparation and study of optical properties of ZnO nanowires. Nanoporous ion track polycarbonate foils were used as templates for ZnO nanowires growth by electrochemical deposition. The growth was performed using an aqueous electrochemical bath at a temperature of 70 degrees C. SEM and TEM were employed to study the morphological properties of the nanowires. Electron diffraction was employed for structural characterization. Reflection and photoluminescence spectroscopy were used for optical characterization. A comparison between the properties of electrodeposited thin films and nanowires of ZnO was made from the point of view of photoluminescence properties. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

798. Electrolytic reduction of Tl+ ions in KCl crystals

Electrolytic coloration has been made for KCl crystals doped with Tl+ ions and doped with Tl+ and Ca2+ ions. Intensity decrease of the Tl+ absorption bands is observed in the two colored crystals, while several new absorption and emission bands are observed. They are attributed to Tl- ions which were converted from Tl+ ions by electron injection during electrolytic coloration. Different absorption and emission bands are observed for KCI:TI and KCI:T1 + Ca crystals. Sharp absorption band appears at 285 nm in the colored KCl:Tl and at 400 and 503 nm in the colored KCLTl + Ca. Infrared emission bands are observed at 1470, 1600 and 2185 nm in colored KCI:Tl, while at 1630 and 1900 nm in colored KCl:Tl + Ca. It is suggested that the absorption and emission bands in KCl:Tl + Ca are due to Tl- ions perturbed by Ca2+ or vacancy at the nearest neighbor. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

799. Asymmetric localization in disordered Landau bands

We show that, due to band mixing, the eigenstate localization within the disordered Landau bands gets an asymmetric structure: the degree of localization increases in the lower part of the band and decreases in the upper one. The calculation is performed for a two-dimensional lattice with the Anderson disorder potential and we prove that this effect is related to the upper shift of the extended states within the band and is enhanced by the disorder strength. The asymmetric localization and the energy shift disappear when the interband coupling is switched off.

800. Iron oxide in a silica matrix prepared by the sol-gel method

FexOy-SiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by sol-gel method by using two SiO2 sources and Fe(SO4)(2)center dot 7H(2)O as raw materials. The amorphous gels were thermally treated up to 1000 degrees C. The initial gel and the thermally treated samples were characterized by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) and infrared spectroscopy. The presence of hematite was confirmed by the obtained Mossbauer spectra which showed the characteristic sextet. The total amount and the size distributions of the hematite nanoparticles can be controlled via the initial precursors and subsequent by annealing conditions. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
