Welcome Letter

WELCOME TO ICAME 2021 IN BRASOV-ROMANIA

It is with great pleasure that we invite you all to attend the 36th International Conference on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect, ICAME 2021, which will be held in Brasov, Romania, between 5th and 10th September 2021, jointly with the International Conference on Hyperfine Interactions and their Applications.

The proposed venue is in the main historical city of Transylvania, Brasov, situated at the confluence of two old mountain passes crossing Southern Carpathians: Prahova Valley and Rucar – Bran corridor. Whereas Prahova Valley was rapidly modernized starting already with the end of the XIX-th century, when King Carol I established the Royal Summer Residence at the Peles Castle (built in 1875) in Sinaia, the Rucar – Bran pass has remained unaltered in its pastoral and traditional aspects. Moreover, Middle Age old fortified churches, fortresses and castles are spread in the Bran area as well as almost everywhere in the wonderful Transylvania.

Brasov is situated quite in the middle of Romania at about 170 km north from Bucharest. Being mentioned already since 1252, it was during most of the Middle Age the capital of the Transylvanian Saxons as well as an important commercial centre on the trade roads between Western Europe and Ottoman Empire. With about 380.000 inhabitants in the metropolitan area it is currently one of the main touristic and multi-cultural towns in Romania.

The ICAME conference will be jointly organized with Hyperfine Interaction Conference by the National Institute of Materials Physics (NIMP), from Magurele- Bucharest, which is actually part of the largest Physics Hub in Romania. Founded in 1977, NIMP (www.infim.ro) is among the Top 5 research institutions in Romania from the scientific performances point of view (with ~190 qualified researchers it is the first one by scientific productivity). Mössbauer spectroscopy investigations (as well as studies of hyperfine interactions by EPR and NMR) have an old tradition in this institute dating back to 1962, when a first home-made spectrometer was built. The first Mössbauer paper has been published in 1964 and one of the most known Mössbauer monographies, “Mössbauer Spectroscopy and its applications” by Danila Barb and co-workers was published in 1972. Presently, more than 95% of the Mössbauer effect related research in Romania is realized at NIMP.

The conference venue is the ARO Palace Conference Centre which is situated nearby the historical heart of Brasov. It offers three modular conference halls, which can accommodate up to 500 persons, six restaurants as well as 300 rooms. However, accommodation in other surrounding 3* and 4* hotels or hostels offering very good conditions at convenient prices as well as downtown friendly restaurants within 5-10 min walking distance are also available proposing a large range of culinary experiences, traditional and modern altogether. Social events and a round trip in the wonderful areas Prahova Valley and Bran are envisaged.

In the name of all the Organizing Committee, as chairs of ICAME 2021 and Hyperfine Interaction Conference, we warmly invite all the Mössbauer community and not only, and we are looking forward to welcome you to ICAME 2021 in Brasov.
