National Institute of Materials Physics and the UNESCO Chair (TRRISE) at the European Researchers’ Night 2025

As in previous years, the National Institute of Materials Physics (NIMP) took part in the European Researchers’ Night, actively promoting science and facilitating dialogue between researchers and the public. This year, NIMP participated on September 26 in the Central Square of Măgurele and on September 27 in the Lumea Copiilor Park in Bucharest, where researchers presented interactive demonstrations and educational activities. These activities illustrated how fundamental research in materials physics is translated into sustainable technological applications, relevant to everyday life and environmental protection. Direct interaction with visitors, from children to adults, created a conducive environment for learning and dialogue, in line with this year’s theme: “Science for the Earth: sustainability through responsibility.”

This year’s edition was particularly special, as the UNESCO Chair – Transfer of Research Results into STEM Education (TRRISE) participated for the first time in the European Researchers’ Night with its own stand at the National Geological Museum in Bucharest. The UNESCO Chair’s mission is to support the continuous professional development of teachers and to reduce inequalities in access to scientific education. At the stand, visitors engaged with captivating activities and demonstrations, showcasing how research results can be integrated into STEM education and contribute to the promotion of sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Through its presence at this event, NIMP demonstrated the continuity of its engagement in promoting scientific research, while the participation of the UNESCO Chair (TRRISE) highlighted the importance of integrating research results into STEM education and fostering sustainability. This edition emphasized how research and education can respond to societal needs, strengthening dialogue between the scientific community and the general public, and underlining the role of education and research in building a responsible and sustainable future.
