The main objective of this project is to use the expertise of research groups from NIMP and JINR in order to investigate the effect of irradiation on the properties of organic thin film for flexible devices with applications in Space technology. The specific objectives of the project are:
O1) Preparation and characterization of the flexible organic thin films. Deposition by different methods: VTE, MAPLE, SC. Characterization structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties. Possible polymeric substrates to use are: poly(ether sulfones)/PES, polyethylene naphthalate/PEN, polycarbonate/PC, polystyrene/PS, polyimide (PI). Possible small molecule organic semiconductors: 1,3,6,8 (2H,7H)-tetraone, 2,7-dicyclohexylbenzo[lmn][3,8]phenanthroline; N,N’-Bis(4-methoxybenzyl)perylene-3,4:9,10-bis (dicarboximide); phthalocyanine derivatives; rubrene;
O2) The ion / neutron beam (α-particles, proton, argon and neutron E = 0,5; 1; 1,5; 2 MEV) irradiation of the plastic substrates and the organic layers. The plastic substrates and the organic layers will be irradiated at different time of exposure/dose;
O3) Investigation of the properties of irradiated plastic substrates and organic layers. The effect of exposure time/dose on the properties of the substrates and organic layers will be analysed from structural, morphological, optical and electrical point of view. The properties will be compared with those of the unirradiated samples;
O4) Dissemination of the results. Communication of the results at an international conference; 1 article submitted for publication in ISI journal.
